Lucy goes with me to my OB appointments. Maybe that's "liberal," but since she's been the only one for almost five years, I think it's a great way to help her feel included and be that much more prepared for a sibling.
My last appointment had a sneak peek ultrasound to check the sex of the baby. We broke our tradition; Lucy was a surprise, but being poorer this time around, I want to know ahead of time so I can make use of the awesome yard sales around here.
Anyway, back to the appointment, the first image of our baby was him showcasing that he was a boy--no shyness to this one! Lucy wanted so much for a sister. Her tone showed her disappointment. She said, "I'm going to have a little brother," but what she really meant was, "Oh, it's not a girl. I'll make a fake smile and pretend that's okay."
It didn't take long, but she is now more excited and likes to tell people, "I'm going to have a baby brother, but he's too little to come out of my Mommy's tummy."
